How Does SkinPen® Microneedling Work?
Overall, your SkinPen® experience should take less than an hour and leave you ready to return to your usual daily routine right away. Here’s what you can expect from the entire microneedling procedure:
Before the Treatment
Most people do not have to make changes to their daily lives to prepare for RF microneedling treatment. Prior to your appointment, you’ll meet with one of our medical professionals to go over your routine. During this time, we will let you know if you need to avoid certain products, ingredients, or medications.
One thing we encourage for all of our clients is to avoid prolonged sun exposure a day or two prior to treatment — skip the tanning and let your skin rest for at least 24 hours.
During the Treatment
Many people avoid microneedling because they are concerned it will be painful, but the SkinPen® experience is all about your comfort. Prior to the session, one of our professionals will apply a topical numbing cream to any areas receiving treatment. Discomfort throughout your procedure and recovery should be minimal.
Once the anesthetic cream starts working, so can we. We’ll use the streamlined SkinPen® RF machine to complete your treatment in as little as 30 minutes. After, we’ll make sure your skin stays cool and refreshed with a soothing mask and boosting serum before you leave our office.
Recovering From the Treatment
With traditional microneedling, many clients experience some redness, bruising, and swelling over the following day or two. However, thanks to the addition of radiofrequency healing, you will leave your RF microneedling appointment with minimal changes in your appearance. You may experience some minor swelling or tenderness, but it usually clears up within a few hours.
As your skin recovers and resurfaces, we recommend you avoid:
- Heavy exercise for two days
- Makeup and sunlight for three days
- Exfoliating the treated areas for one week
It can take some time to see the full effects of microneedling, which is why we often recommend repeated treatments for the best results. However, you should start seeing some changes within a few days to a week.
