Male Plastic Surgery: How and Why the Stigma is Shifting

Plastic Surgery in Denver

If you thought plastic surgery was just for women, think again. More and more men are not only seeking information on procedures, but they’re going through with them to improve their body image and self-esteem.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 1.3 million cosmetic procedures were performed on men in 2017. Numbers also show that between 2000 and 2017, there was a 29 percent increase in plastic surgery procedures for men.

While younger men may be going for the tummy tucks and liposuction, older men are opting for less invasive procedures like injectables. Statistics show that nearly 100,000 men had filler injections in 2017. That’s a 99% jump when compared to the year 2000.

Why are more men getting plastic surgery?

Besides the obvious reason of wanting to improve their appearance, some men are opting for plastic surgery procedures to look younger so that they can compete with their younger counterparts in the workplace. Other men report getting plastic surgery to make them look as young as they feel. As time goes on, it is also becoming more socially acceptable for men to admit they want to look better and to do something about it.

Besides injectable procedures, many men are opting for neck and eyelid procedures. Men who experience a skin elasticity loss in their eyelids may also experience crow’s feet, excess eyelid tissue, and other issues. With an eyelid lift, men are left with a more flattering appearance.
