‘Tis the Season to Invest in Yourself
As you look at your holiday to-do list, gifts to buy, and events to attend, where do you fall on the list? Yes, you! Are you even included? During this time of year, we tend to think so much about doing and giving to everyone else that we forget about ourselves. While it’s good to want to take care of others, you can’t do that effectively if you’re neglecting yourself.
It’s important to make self-care a priority during the hectic holiday season (and all-year-round for that matter). Here are some tips to truly make it the most wonderful time of the year.
Stress comes on strong during the holiday season, so battle it like it’s your job! If you don’t, you can put yourself at risk for a variety of health problems including hypertension, fatigue, and muscle tension, just to name a few. Who wants to deal with any of that during the holidays?
How can you battle stress? As hard as it may be, you have to learn to say no to some people and situations and say yes to yourself. It’s not going to be easy at first, but once you start, you’ll wonder why it took you so long!
You can also beat stress by finding fun activities that help you relax and refresh. Think about the things you actually like to do and do them. This will help to keep your mind off of your key stressors, at least for a little while.
Reap the Benefits of Exercise
While you may think it’s going to be hard to see the benefits of exercise during the holiday season because it’s hard to find the time, you actually need it now more than ever. Besides helping to burn off those holiday cookie calories, exercise also helps to release feel-good endorphins that are vital for self-care. Plus, when we exercise, we’re also working to burn off stress. Exercise is a win-win all around and a must for the holiday season.
Get Some Sleep
Instead of staying up all night shopping for the latest bargains, go to sleep! Not getting enough sleep during the holidays can amplify the effects of the busy holiday season. When you get enough sleep, you have the energy to take on everything the holidays are throwing at you. Plus, getting enough sleep can help to battle stress and help with weight management.
Make Time to Relax
One of the pillars of self-care is learning to relax. This can mean finding time to curl up with a good book, taking a hot bath, binge-watching your favorite show, or visiting with friends. Whatever activity makes you the most relaxed, just do it! Take this time for you and what you want to do, not what anyone else wants. You’ll thank yourself later.
Be Happy with You
Look in the mirror. Are you happy with what you see? There is a lot of truth to the saying “if you look good, you feel good”. Being unhappy with your appearance can affect your self-confidence and even your mood, not just during the holiday season, but year-round.
Why not treat yourself this holiday season to something that will make you feel good? If you’ve always wanted to get rid of frown lines or improve facial sagging, there are many non-invasive procedures that can take years off your age. The best part is that they can be done quickly and at a reasonable cost.
Perhaps you truly want to give yourself a gift and treat yourself to a surgical procedure you’ve always wanted. Whether it’s a nose job, facelift, or something else, what better way to invest in yourself than to improve your appearance? What you can get in return is priceless!
